About Us

Aumana Yoga was founded by Chris Norton and Ben Auman, both of whom began their yoga studies at Bluebird Sky Yoga in Washington, D.C. in 2016. Chris earned his yoga teacher certifications at the House of Yoga Academy (RYT 200) and the Progressive Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga School (Rocket®). He also studied Bhakti Yoga with Seán Johnson at the Asheville Yoga Center, where he is currently taking his 300-hour teacher training. Ben earned his yoga teaching certifications at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health (RYT 200) and Jess Kahn Yoga (RYT 200). Chris and Ben both studied Usui Reiki I, II, and III with Master Teacher Kelly Little, and Chris studied Usui Holy Fire Reiki I and II with Master Teacher Amy Potter of From the Earth Creative.
In 2023, Chris founded Lake Jackson Yoga, a group that has grown to over 150 yoga enthusiasts who take Chris and Ben's classes and join them to experience the gifts of other teachers and studios around Northern Virginia. Aumana Yoga was born of that effort as they relocated from D.C. to Manassas full-time in 2024.

Ben has also been a licensed massage therapist since 2015 (aumanmassage.com).

What makes Aumana Yoga different?
We are a small, home-based studio focused on creating a welcoming, non-intimidating environment where students can explore yoga at their own pace.
Do I need to be flexible or experienced to attend?
Not at all. Yoga is for every body. Our classes are designed to be accessible to beginners while still offering depth and challenge for experienced practitioners.
What should I bring to class?
-
A yoga mat if you have one
-
Water
-
Comfortable clothing you can move freely in
We also provide props such as blocks and straps if you don’t have your own.
I don’t have a yoga mat. Do you offer them?
Yes! We have several complementary yoga mats that you can borrow.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable, breathable clothing that allows you to stretch and move without restriction. You will practice barefoot.
How early should I arrive?
Please arrive 10–15 minutes before class to settle in, check in, and set up your space. Arriving early helps maintain a calm and focused environment for everyone.
What if I arrive late?
Please text or email your teacher or the studio if you know you’re running late. We will do our best to save a spot for you at the entrance of the yoga space to minimize disruption to the class. Contact information is found in class confirmation emails. For certain events, late entry may not be permitted once class has begun. This is a common policy at many studios to respect both the teacher and other students.
What is the cancellation policy?
All sales are final, and we do not issue automatic refunds. Cancellations of class registrations more than two (2) hours in advance will result in credit for future classes. For workshops and special events, cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance for a credit for the event. Any cancellations of class registrations less than two (2) hours in advance, cancellations of workshops and/or special events with less than 24 hours notice, or failure to attend a reserved class, workshop, or special event (a “no-show”) will result in forfeiture of the class or event payment or credit. A limited grace policy or refund may be applied at the discretion of the teachers.
Do I need to remove my shoes?
Yes. Shoes should be removed before entering the practice space to help keep the studio clean and peaceful.
Where should I place my mat?
You’re welcome to choose your space, but please be mindful of spacing and leave room for others. If class is busy, we may help guide mat placement.
Can I use my phone in the studio?
Phones should be silenced and stored away before class begins. Yoga is a chance to unplug and be fully present.
Is talking allowed in the studio?
Of course! Just try to keep energy soft and calm. We encourage quiet conversation before class and a calm, quiet environment once class begins so everyone can settle into their practice.
What if I need to leave early?
If you must leave early, please let the teacher know before class and try to set up near the door to minimize disruption.
Do I have to participate in every pose?
No. Listening to your body is a core principle of yoga. You are always welcome to rest in Child’s Pose or modify poses as needed.
Are hands-on adjustments used?
Teachers may offer optional hands-on adjustments to support alignment. You can always decline—your comfort and consent come first.
Do I need to stay for Savasana?
Savasana (final rest) is an important part of the practice and helps your body integrate the benefits of the class. We strongly encourage staying through the end whenever possible.
What should I do with props after class?
Please clean borrowed mats and props using the wipes provided and return them neatly to their designated storage areas so the space is ready for the next class.
What if I have an injury or medical condition?
Please inform your teacher before class begins. This helps us provide appropriate modifications and keep your practice safe.
Is yoga a substitute for medical treatment?
Yoga supports wellness but is not a replacement for professional medical care. Always follow the advice of your healthcare provider.
Do I need to reserve in advance?
Advance booking is recommended to guarantee your spot as class sizes are limited.
Is the studio beginner-friendly?
Yes. Many of our students are new to yoga, and we intentionally maintain a supportive, judgment-free atmosphere.
For First-Time Visitors: What should I expect during my first class?
-
A brief check-in and orientation
-
Clear explanations of poses and transitions
-
Options and modifications offered throughout class
You never need to “keep up” with anyone else—your practice is your own.
